How is this approach different to the many other back exercises and therapies that haven’t helped me in the past?

First of all, most traditional therapies are based on examination of restrictions in movement in mainly the front to back plane eg bending forwards and backwards and often focus solely on the immediate area where the pain is felt. However, here, the effect of spinal torsion in the horizontal plane and its effect on movements throughout the entire spine in the front to back plane, is taken into account:  from the neck all the way down to the pelvis, which can be considered to be ‘the keystone’ to the whole body.

Secondly,  this is an approach that can stand alone or, for faster results, be combined with appropriate manual therapy techniques. However, at all times, the person experiencing pain has the major responsibility of doing the stretching exercises AND most importantly, changing their habits to address the muscle imbalance in the torso. BOTH parts of the protocol are crucial to a successful outcome.

Thirdly, the impact of this torsion on the gliding capacity of the nervous system is taken into account, when considering the potential source and cause of ongoing low back pain and addressed accordingly.

This combination has led to a new and innovative protocol which back pain sufferers have repeatedly demonstrated that they are willing to persist with, after experiencing improvements in the movements of the spine and pain levels.

Are you saying that the programme can cure my back problem?

No, not at all – nothing will ‘cure’ the wear and tear we all develop in our in spines as we get older: the bulging discs, the narrowing of the central spinal canal, the nerve entrapment etc. What it can help to do, is assist with improvement of your spinal alignment, which can give the pain the best chance of settling down. This is a maintenance exercise programme to self-manage your condition. Make it part of your daily routine, along with modifying your daily habits and start enjoying relief from your pain sooner than you think.
